If you’re looking for an exciting new venue for your school tour this year, check out Oakfield Park in Donegal. The park is suitable for all ages including young children and teenagers with lots to see, do and explore. Here’s five great reasons to book your school tour at Oakfield Park this year:
Oakfield Park’s crowning glory is our 4.5km narrow gauge railway with diesel and steam trains operating each day. A train ride is one of the best ways to see the whole park, making it an extra special day for the kids.
- Things To Do
From walled gardens and ponds to lakes and trails, Oakfield Park truly is a wonderland for children. Groups of all ages enjoy the excitement of trying to find the centre of our hedge maze and smaller children love making a wish at our Faerie tree. We also provide hand-outs and maps to allow students navigate their way around educational nature trails and treasure hunt experiences.
Oakfield Park has over 100-acres of manicured parkland to explore. While enjoying the stunning scenery, you can also learn all about the hundreds of different flowers and trees growing in the grounds, as well as the wide variety of wildlife that call Oakfield Park their home. Children love learning about our bees and how we make our famous Oakfield Park Honey.
- Great Value
We offer excellent school tour and group packages including a light lunch, if required in our garden restaurant, Buffers. However, groups are also welcome to bring their own packed lunch or picnic to enjoy in the Oakfield Park gardens. A day pass and light lunch costs €12 p.p or a day pass costs €8 p.p. (or sterling equivalent).
- Feedback From Past Schools
Don’t just take our word for it, here’s some feedback from other schools that visited us last year.
“Oakfield Park is a great place for groups as there’s so much to explore. The educational element of the park is exceptional. Students got to wander around the trails and learn all about the outdoor environment. They particularly enjoyed the hedge maze and the food and service in Buffers was also of a very high quality and standard. We’re looking forward to more school tour trips to Oakfield Park and we’d highly recommend it.” Primary School Teacher
“It’s always great getting out of the classroom but it was good to learn about bees and honey and the wildlife here. It rained a bit when we first arrived, but once we all hopped on the train, it didn’t matter. It was cool to see the castle and we had a lot of fun going around the hedge maze, especially when our teacher got lost.” 5th class student, Letterkenny.
